I walked 19 3/4 miles today with a lot of uphill and downhill and along the beach. I’m not tired of the beach but I really enjoy the forests and the paths rather than some sort of pavement or concrete.
I made no friends nor did I walk with anyone. I took Donnas advice and did a nice slow walk.
It took about 9 hours to walk today. The last 1-2 miles seems to always be the killer. I did get lost which hurt a half hour or so. The map had me walking a busy road with nowhere to walk so I turned around and made alternate routes. Yesterday was kind of freaky crossing a long bridge to Viana do Castela. The walkway was maybe 30” wide with cars buzzing by closer than I like. I held the handrail the entire length in case I stumbled I wouldn’t look like a squirrel on the road.
This is the freaky bridge.
On both Caminos there are just a few people who walk it in reverse by starting in Santiago. I’ve seen a few here. Here they have the yellow arrow going to Santiago and blue for those reversing.
Nothing really worth noting happened today. I have no blisters or hot spots and my legs feel better every day now.
I did do some hand washing after my shower today. I took this photo of the area used for hand washing. This is why not many people could stay in a hostel.
Tomorrow I take a ferry across the river to enter Spain again. I like Portugal but really prefer Spain as I can get by with language and have to use more pantomime in Portugal.
I’ll end with some photos from the day
My room for tonight. Six beds in here and about six in an adjoining room that’s open to this one. Yet another reason Miss Dee will never do a hostel.
6:45 am in the town where I stayed.
It’ll be a good day again tomorrow. Pop
