Walked 19.7 miles today. It was hot and very humid. It was also cloudless which made the heat a little bit worse. It was a very good day. We are in Arcade (are- cah – day). Early this morning I was walking and struggling to find the trail because of lack of yellow arrows. I came across a woman likewise struggling so together we struggled and made it out of the city. We started walking together. Her name is Katheryn and is an English teacher from Czech Republic. We then came upon a young girl Kata from Hungary and a woman from Netherlands. The four of us walked together until the Dutch woman wanted to walk slower and then the three of us walked.
I had no reservations beyond today and planned on finding places along the way. Katheryn said she is taking the Esperitual route which I thought added a day. It turns out that it adds nothing. We take a boat about 30 miles to Padron which helps a lot. We have one 20+ mile day left. I have about 48 miles left.
Here are photos from today.
This was a donativo we stopped for coffee. The woman was so very pleasant. Another picture of the donativo.
This is one of the very few foundations. I was running out of water when I came upon this and refilled with cool water. It may look bad but this is normal for fountains.
Towards the end of the walk today Kata was struggling with pain in knees and ankles. We helped by carrying her backpack and then stopped for a couple of beers and we ate a late lunch. Kata is 20 years old and her father is 81 and mother 52. Her father was in the 1980 Olympic in Moscow and her mother was in Olympic in Barcelona and one other place. Her father was the mother’s trainer before marrying her. Kata has a 45 year old boyfriend who was her HS math teacher. Her and her boyfriend and his 2nd grade son are going to Croatia for holiday soon with the exwife also. There’s more stories here for me to probe tomorrow.
We are now at about 80 km remaining. This arrow is 92 km. I was excited to be below 100 km (60 miles).
More tomorrow, best, Pop
Finally, this is my room tonight. I’m top bunk again.
