We were in BA the last few days and not much to report. While there we did go to the Teatro Colon (Columbus Theater) where they perform symphonies, plays, ballet. It was built in 1908 and is magnificent. Here are few pictires from there. It seats about 2200 people.
The biggest disappointment was when we went to our rooms last evening as evidenced by this photo.
We flew this morning from BA to Bariloche (bar ee low chay) which means people that live behind the mountains in the indigenous language. We are at the edge of the Andes Mountains. As we were about 1/2 to 3/4 weary here in the plane there were very large salt lakes on the very flat land. As we were landing it looked like the arid land on a New Mexico with maybe a few scrub trees. Veery very dry with I think about 10cm of rain per year. I forget what the rain is her in the city of about 200,000 but it is very green with huge trees in the national park. Traffic is horrible so we’re so pleased to have a driver and tour guide from the area. Here is what we saw as we drove west of Bariloche and took a chair lift up a small mountain. Dee thinks that is one of the most beautiful places she has ever been. I would agree.
Tomorrow is a free day and we plan to hike the top of one of the mountains. There was an option to ride horses or zip line and we chose to hike. The temp today was about 80 and tomorrow about 75. They said that this was the first really nice days in two weeks. Previously it was very windy. When we leave on Wednesday to go to Chile we will take a catamaran up three of the lakes. It is a 10 hour boat and bus ride on Wednesday but promises to be beautiful. I think it include going past a volcano.
My friend Ed Weber commented that the best way to use a bidet is with a drink in one hand. I had not received that advice when I used it and I actually found it to be refreshing and not bad or frightening as I had imagined all of these years of traveling especially in Europe. I’m not a convert though donor am I planning to add one at home.
