What a great day and terrible last night. our bedroom last night was upper 80’s (90?) all night. Everytime I woke my head was sweating. Air conditioning is rare here because they get these temps rarely. Rick got up at 4 am and went outside to sit. We left at 6:00 because a cafe opened across the way from our hotel.
The path this morning was really nice and smooth. We entered a new region of Spain called Galicia and I’m so hopeful that the path maintenance remains good. We are truly in the mountains now and very green. Walking today we had heavy woods on our left and pastures on our right for much of the day. we got to our town about 2pm and had beer and lunch.
Great paella. The town is having a peregrino festival today and we’ll go back later this afternoon. While we ate the local band came by our table.
It’s laundry day for us today and I just took a sack down to have the reception girl wash it for 4€ then we hang it outside on the line to dry. She has virtuall everything I brought except what I have on as I type.
As we walk through some of these ancient villagesI think of a song lyric ”In a country where they turn back time” . Last evening we were in the first church built along the camino in 9th century when the camino started. There were about 60 pilgrims and someone from each language attending read from a church prepared paper blessing us. The priest then went to each pilgrim and handed them a small smooth stone as a remembrance and blessed that person on their way. So so meaningful. I’ll always remember it.
Here’s some pictures from today:
We are leaving at 4:30 tomorrow morning as our final destination forecast is 103 degrees by late afternoon.
