I know yesterday I said how mundane the walk was. Today the walk was absolutely wonderful. We walked 15 miles today from San Martin to Astorga which is a medium sized city. Rick is heading to the cathedral but I’m staying here in our apartment that he found for us. I just woke from a 1-hour plus nap. We got in about 2 and it was hot. It’s odd that its hot but we ate outside under an umbrella and it was comfortable.
Now for the day. In Orbigo we crossed then ate breakfast on the other side of a 13th century bridge. It was built over an ancient Roman bridge. There’s about 15 openings in the bridge for water to have flowed through.
We sat down outside on the other side of the bridge for breakfast. Here’s my view of the village.
Next big treat was a donativo stop. Along the camino it is rare to find this free food and drink stop. People set them up and you make a donation for what you eat or take. This old hippie had the ultimate set up.
As we were coming into San Justo de La Vega we could hear church bells calling mass. We went to mass, which I can’t follow but enjoy. After mass four women carried out a statue and the priests performed a blessing of the trucks.
Now, here’s the video of the blessing of the trucks. They strapped the statue to the back of one of the trucks.
Here’s a couple more pictures from today:
