My first blister appeared today and is not welcomed whatsoever. Little toe but is an issue. We left Logrono at 5:45am and there were still a lot of people on the streets from the night before. In the first half hour we stopped because my foot was bothering me. i got paper tape and glide stick to fix it. It helped. About 8:15 we stopped for cafe and breakfast and I checked foot. i tightened shoe and discovered that small changes can have big effects. Next stop I loosened laces and good for remainder of 18 miles today. I’ll work on toe tonight. we have hiked 118 miles so far in 8 days
i get asked about the trail conditions. The trail can be concrete paved in the city like a sidewalk or street or it can be 18 inches wide. it can be smooth or gravel, or dirt with or without ruts, or it can have large ruts smooth or very jagged.
typically when we arrive in a town we have two beers. Today was no different. we sat outside a bar when a local band like a high school band arrived. They went in the bar and played. so much fun
On the way into town saw three storks building a nest.
Rioja grapes are everywhere
Dee and I love Rioja wine but didn’t know that Rioja is a region. We are in Rioja region and there are grapes everywhere.
A couple of other little snipets. Stephen, who had the ten blisters, quit hiking right after putting thread through blisters to drain them. He is likely back in London now.
Today was cold for us. I started with raincoat for warmth then took it off after about an hour. At the cafe I put it back on for a couple of hours. it was in upper 50’s to mid 60’s over the day. also it was cloudy all day which helped a lot compared to the same miles hiked yesterday. tomorrow is about 12-13 miles.
